Overview
Smart Soup is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formula composed of three herbs—Rhizoma Acori Tatarinowii, Poria cum Radix Pini, and Radix Polygalae—in equal parts. It has been used in China for centuries to treat amnesia and cognitive impairment. Modern research has focused on its potential as a multi-target therapy for Alzheimer's disease (AD) and mild cognitive impairment (MCI). Preclinical studies show that Smart Soup reduces amyloid-β levels, amyloidosis, gliosis, and neuronal loss in animal models of AD. Mechanistically, Radix Polygalae appears to reduce amyloid-β generation while Rhizoma Acori Tatarinowii and Poria cum Radix Pini provide neuroprotective effects against amyloid toxicity. Clinical trials are ongoing to evaluate its efficacy in improving cognition and behavior in patients with AD or MCI[1][2][3][5].
