Overview
SMART01 is an investigational cardiac progenitor cell therapy developed by Procella Therapeutics, a business unit of SmartCella. The therapy is designed to regenerate heart tissue that has been damaged following a myocardial infarction (heart attack). Originally co-developed in a strategic collaboration with AstraZeneca, SmartCella acquired full ownership of the program in 2024. The program utilizes cardiac progenitor cells to restore heart function and is being prepared for first-in-human clinical studies. The therapy is intended for localized delivery, potentially utilizing the Extroducer micro-catheter developed by SmartCella's Smartwise unit.
