Drug intelligence / Profile preview
SmartArrow Plus is a targeted cosmetic active and delivery system developed by ArrowBiome for the treatment of acne. Spun out of the Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research and Technology (SMART) and Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, ArrowBiome designed SmartArrow Plus using its 'Forge' technology, which combines protein and particle engineering. The system consists of a proprietary lactic acid/glycolic acid copolymer (PLGA) nanoparticle coated with an acne-targeting protein (SR-Phage Polypeptide-2, derived from phage biology) and loaded with active payloads such as benzoyl peroxide (BPO), retinol, azelaic acid, or niacinamide. SmartArrow Plus selectively binds to and disrupts Cutibacterium acnes biofilms on acne-prone skin, delivering the active payload directly to acne lesions. This targeted delivery enables high efficacy at over 100 times lower doses than conventional treatments, minimizing skin irritation and side effects while preserving the beneficial skin microbiome.
