SMC1 FS peptide vaccine is a preclinical-stage cancer vaccine targeting a tumor-specific frameshift (FS) peptide derived from the mis-splicing of the structural maintenance of chromosomes 1A (SMC1A) gene. Developed by researchers at Arizona State University and licensed to Calviri, the vaccine is designed to elicit a targeted immune response against the SMC1A 1^4 frameshift neoantigen, which is commonly expressed in various cancers due to transcription and splicing errors. In preclinical mouse models of melanoma and breast cancer, vaccination with the SMC1 FS peptide or genetic vectors encoding it has demonstrated significant retardation of tumor growth, mediated primarily by CD8+ T cells. The vaccine is being investigated as a potential prophylactic or therapeutic agent for mismatch repair-deficient and other solid tumors.
