Overview

SMC4 siRNA is a small interfering RNA designed to silence the expression of the **Structural Maintenance of Chromosomes 4 (SMC4)** gene via the RNA interference (RNAi) pathway. SMC4 is a critical subunit of the condensin I and II complexes, which are essential for chromosome condensation and segregation during mitosis. In the context of oncology, SMC4 is frequently overexpressed and has been identified as a driver of tumor progression and chemoresistance. Specifically, in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), SMC4 promotes resistance to chemotherapy by inducing autophagy. By targeting and facilitating the degradation of SMC4 mRNA, SMC4 siRNA reduces protein levels, thereby inhibiting autophagy-mediated survival mechanisms and sensitizing cancer cells to chemotherapeutic agents. It is currently utilized primarily in preclinical research to explore the therapeutic potential of SMC4 inhibition in various malignancies.
