Overview

Smeitinib is an orally administered small molecule that acts as a MEK1/2 inhibitor. It is currently under investigation for the treatment of Type I Neurofibromatosis (NF1), a genetic disorder characterized by tumor growth in the nervous system. By selectively binding to and blocking the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MEK) 1/2 protein, smeitinib aims to inhibit the MEK/ERK signaling pathway, which plays a crucial role in cell growth and proliferation, thereby inducing tumor shrinkage. This approach is being explored to improve surgical outcomes and reduce tumor recurrence in NF1 patients.
