Overview
SMO M.R Narco is a modified-release formulation of sodium oxybate (the sodium salt of gamma-hydroxybutyrate, GHB) being developed by Debregeas & Associés Pharma (D&A Pharma) for the treatment of narcolepsy. Sodium oxybate acts as an agonist at both the GHB receptor and the GABA-B receptor. In narcolepsy, it is used to improve sleep architecture and reduce symptoms such as cataplexy and excessive daytime sleepiness. The modified-release formulation is designed to optimize the pharmacokinetic profile of the drug, potentially allowing for a more convenient dosing regimen compared to immediate-release versions. It is currently in the preclinical stage of development.
