Drug intelligence / Profile preview
SmoothLD is a low-density barium sulfate suspension (60% w/v) developed by Voyageur Pharmaceuticals as a diagnostic contrast agent for gastrointestinal (GI) tract imaging. Indicated for use in CT imaging and fluoroscopy, the agent is administered orally to provide radiodensity that outlines the lumen of the GI tract, facilitating the visualization of anatomical structures and potential pathologies. Unlike many synthetic barium products, SmoothLD is produced using pharmaceutical-grade barium sulfate sourced from Voyageur's own Frances Creek deposit in British Columbia, part of a vertically integrated production model. The product was licensed by Health Canada and scheduled for commercial distribution beginning in August 2025.
