Drug intelligence / Profile preview
SMR001 is a recombinant human nerve growth factor (rhNGF) developed as an ophthalmic solution for the treatment of moderate to severe dry eye disease and also investigated for diabetic foot ulcers. The drug is designed to promote corneal nerve regeneration and improve ocular surface health by mimicking endogenous nerve growth factor activity. Clinical studies have evaluated its safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics, and efficacy in both healthy volunteers and patients with dry eye disease[1][8]. The mechanism of action involves supporting neuronal survival and regeneration at the ocular surface.
