SMT007 is a preclinical-stage small interfering RNA (siRNA) therapeutic being developed by SirnaMed. It is specifically designed to target and silence the expression of Programmed cell death 1 ligand 1 (PD-L1), a critical immune checkpoint protein that many cancer cells use to evade the immune system. By utilizing the RNA interference (RNAi) pathway, SMT007 facilitates the degradation of PD-L1 mRNA, leading to a significant reduction in PD-L1 protein levels on the cell surface. This downregulation is intended to prevent the interaction between PD-L1 and the PD-1 receptor on T cells, thereby restoring and enhancing the body's natural anti-tumor immune response. The candidate is currently being evaluated for multiple undisclosed indications, primarily within the field of oncology.
