Overview

SN-011 is a potent small molecule inhibitor of the **Stimulator of Interferon Genes (STING)** pathway. It functions by targeting the STING protein, a central mediator of the innate immune response to cytosolic DNA, thereby preventing the downstream induction of Type I interferons (such as IFN-β) and pro-inflammatory cytokines. In the context of **age-related macular degeneration (AMD)**, SN-011 has been shown to mitigate immune-mediated retinal degeneration by blocking the polarized secretion of IFN-β and IL-17A, which are associated with photoreceptor apoptosis and choroidal disruption. By inhibiting the STING-driven pathogenic feed-forward loop, SN-011 helps preserve retinal architecture and function in preclinical models. It is primarily utilized as a pharmacological tool to investigate the therapeutic potential of STING inhibition in inflammatory and degenerative diseases.
