Drug intelligence / Profile preview
SN007 is an oral suspension formulation of the nitroimidazole antibiotic metronidazole, developed by Shanghai Huiyong Pharmaceutical. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of anaerobic bacterial infections. Metronidazole acts as a prodrug that is activated within anaerobic bacteria and protozoa through the reduction of its nitro group by electron transport proteins like ferredoxin. The resulting reactive intermediates cause DNA strand breakage and inhibit nucleic acid synthesis, leading to cell death. SN007 is designed as an alternative oral dosage form to traditional tablets, and it is currently in Phase 1 clinical development in China to compare its pharmacokinetics, safety, and palatability with standard metronidazole tablets under fasted and fed conditions.
