SN102 is a precision gene therapy developed by SereNeuro Therapeutics for the treatment of severe neuropathic pain disorders, including trigeminal neuralgia. It utilizes base editing technology to install a naturally occurring, pain-dampening allele into the KCNQ2 gene selectively within peripheral nociceptors. By enhancing the activity of KCNQ2 (a potassium voltage-gated channel), the therapy reduces the excitability of sensory neurons, thereby providing durable analgesia. Preclinical studies in mouse models of spared nerve injury and osteoarthritis have demonstrated its ability to reverse mechanical and thermal hypersensitivity without affecting motor performance or physiological sensory function.
