Drug intelligence / Profile preview
sn38 liposome (SN38脂质体) is a liposomal formulation of SN-38 (7-ethyl-10-hydroxycamptothecin), the active metabolite of the topoisomerase I inhibitor irinotecan. Developed by the Shandong Laboratory of Yantai Drug Discovery (Yantai Institute of Materia Medica), this Class 1 new drug encapsulates the highly potent but poorly soluble SN-38 within a liposomal bilayer to improve its solubility, stability, and tumor-targeting efficiency while reducing systemic toxicity. The formulation is prepared using spray drying or injection methods combined with high-pressure homogenization. As of late 2023, the program was in preclinical/IND-enabling development, undergoing GMP preparation of clinical samples for planned IND filing.
