SNG1003a is an investigational inhaled formulation of nintedanib, a multi-target tyrosine kinase inhibitor, being developed by Synairgen for the treatment of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). By delivering nintedanib directly to the lungs via nebulization, SNG1003a aims to achieve high local concentrations of the drug at the site of disease while minimizing systemic exposure and the associated gastrointestinal side effects, such as diarrhea and nausea, which are common with oral nintedanib. Nintedanib inhibits several pathways involved in lung fibrosis, specifically targeting the receptors for vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGFR), fibroblast growth factor (FGFR), and platelet-derived growth factor (PDGFR). The program entered Phase 1 clinical trials in early 2024 to evaluate safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics in healthy volunteers.
