SNK-125 is a novel, injectable hydrogel biomaterial developed by Synakis for ophthalmic applications. It is composed of hyaluronan, a natural polysaccharide and component of the native vitreous humor, crosslinked with polyethylene glycol (PEG) using stable chemistry. The material is designed to be biocompatible, biodegradable, non-swelling, and transparent, serving as a structural and mechanical substitute for the vitreous humor. SNK-125 is primarily being developed as a vitreous substitute for use in vitreoretinal surgeries, such as those for retinal detachment, and as a delivery vehicle for engineered therapeutics to treat ocular conditions like glaucoma. Unlike traditional drugs, it does not act on a specific biological receptor but functions as a physical replacement for the native vitreous.
