SNT-101 is a synthetic lung surfactant developed for the treatment of Respiratory Distress Syndrome (RDS) in premature infants. It is designed to mimic the function of natural pulmonary surfactant, which is often deficient in preterm neonates, leading to alveolar collapse and respiratory failure. The drug is composed of a specific mixture of phospholipids and synthetic peptides that replicate the biophysical properties of surfactant proteins B and C (SP-B and SP-C). By reducing surface tension at the air-liquid interface within the alveoli, SNT-101 prevents lung collapse during expiration and improves gas exchange. Unlike animal-derived surfactants, SNT-101 is produced synthetically, which reduces the risk of immunogenicity and potential contamination with animal-borne pathogens while ensuring batch-to-batch consistency.
