Drug intelligence / Profile preview
SNU-RD is a newly developed mitochondrial cardiolipin-targeting tetra-peptide designed to protect the kidneys from hypoxic injury and oxidative damage. Developed by researchers at Seoul National University Hospital and the National Cancer Center in Korea, SNU-RD is synthesized as a dimeric bundle peptide linked by a disulfide bond to enhance cell permeability. It selectively targets cardiolipin, an essential phospholipid located in the inner mitochondrial membrane, thereby preserving mitochondrial cristae structure, reducing reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation, and restoring mitochondrial oxygen consumption rate (OCR) and adenosine triphosphate (ATP) production. In preclinical models of bilateral renal ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI), treatment with SNU-RD significantly reduced serum blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and creatinine levels, improved pathological markers of kidney injury, and down-regulated apoptotic and inflammatory pathways.
