Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**SO-001** is Sobrera's oral fixed-dose small-molecule combination of varenicline and bupropion being developed for moderate to severe alcohol use disorder. Varenicline partially stimulates alpha-4 beta-2 nicotinic acetylcholine receptors, while bupropion inhibits neuronal dopamine and norepinephrine reuptake; Sobrera describes the combined pharmacology as restoring dopamine signaling in the brain reward system to reduce alcohol intake. A randomized Phase 2 study in alcohol use disorder reported significant reductions in phosphatidylethanol and heavy-drinking days versus placebo, and Sobrera is preparing the program for Phase 2b development.
