It is designed to target TAR DNA-binding protein 43 (TDP-43) proteinopathy, a pathological hallmark of several neurodegenerative and muscle disorders. The compound is specifically being investigated for the treatment of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), sporadic inclusion body myositis (sIBM), and frontotemporal lobar degeneration (FTLD). SO-003D aims to address the aggregation or mislocalization of TDP-43, which is linked to neuronal and muscle cell dysfunction, although its precise biochemical mechanism of action (e.g., inhibition of aggregation or promotion of clearance) has not been fully disclosed.
