Overview

SOD2 RNAi refers to the use of RNA interference (RNAi) technology to silence the expression of Superoxide Dismutase 2 (SOD2), a mitochondrial enzyme that converts superoxide radicals into hydrogen peroxide. In the context of oncology, specifically glioblastoma, SOD2 is often upregulated in glioma stem cells (GSCs) and contributes to resistance against chemotherapy (like temozolomide) by scavenging reactive oxygen species (ROS). By knocking down SOD2, researchers aim to increase intracellular ROS levels, inhibit the stemness properties of cancer cells, and re-sensitize them to therapeutic agents. Preclinical studies have demonstrated that SOD2 RNAi can enhance apoptosis and reduce tumor proliferation in patient-derived xenograft models.
