Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This is a sterile intravenous solution containing the electrolytes sodium, potassium, magnesium, and calcium, along with glucose as a carbohydrate source. It is formulated to replenish fluids and essential electrolytes in patients experiencing dehydration or electrolyte imbalances due to conditions such as vomiting, diarrhea, shock, or other causes of fluid loss. The inclusion of glucose provides an immediate energy source in addition to supporting cellular uptake of electrolytes. The mechanism of action involves restoring normal plasma concentrations of these key ions—sodium (Na⁺), potassium (K⁺), magnesium (Mg²⁺), and calcium (Ca²⁺)—which are critical for nerve conduction, muscle contraction (including cardiac function), acid-base balance, and overall cellular homeostasis. Glucose serves as a metabolic substrate for energy production[5][8].
