Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Sodium apolate, also known as lyapolate sodium, is a synthetic polyanionic small molecule classified as a heparinoid and vasoprotective agent. Chemically, it is a polymer of sodium ethenesulfonate. It is categorized under the ATC classification C05BA02, which designates heparins or heparinoids for topical use in antivaricose therapy. The drug exhibits anticoagulant and antithrombotic properties similar to heparin by interfering with the coagulation cascade. Although it has been studied for topical application in conditions such as superficial thrombophlebitis, hematomas, and varicose veins, it remains an experimental agent with no currently approved clinical indications or active commercial development by major pharmaceutical sponsors.
