Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Sodium ascorbate is a mineral salt form of ascorbic acid (vitamin C) with the molecular formula C6H7NaO6. It functions as an antioxidant and is needed by the body to maintain the health of skin, cartilage, teeth, bone, and blood vessels. It also helps wounds heal, enhances iron absorption from plant foods, and supports the immune system. As a buffered form of vitamin C, it has a less acidic reaction than ascorbic acid, making it suitable for people with gastrointestinal issues. Each gram of sodium ascorbate contains approximately 889 mg of ascorbic acid and 111 mg of sodium.
