Overview

Sodium bicarbonate + sodium chloride is a combination product used for various medical purposes. Sodium bicarbonate (also known as "baking soda") functions as a pH buffering agent that neutralizes acid, while sodium chloride ("salt") provides isotonic properties. When combined, these ingredients create a solution that can be used to treat nasal dryness, dissolve and soften thick mucus, and help relieve nasal congestion[3]. This combination is also used in bowel preparation formulations and other medical applications where a buffered saline solution is beneficial. In nasal applications, the solution helps add moisture to nasal passages, making it easier to remove mucus and relieve stuffiness, particularly in babies and young children who cannot blow their noses[3]. The product contains a "purified gentle salt solution" without any medication, making it suitable for regular use. The chemical formula for this combination is CHClNa₂O₃[4], combining the properties of both sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO₃) and sodium chloride (NaCl).
