Overview

Corsodyl Original Dentifrice is a specialized toothpaste developed by Haleon (formerly GSK Consumer Healthcare) for the treatment and prevention of gingivitis and the reduction of dental plaque. Its formulation is characterized by a high concentration (67%) of sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) combined with sodium fluoride (NaF) at approximately 1400 ppm. The primary mechanism of action involves sodium bicarbonate penetrating the dental plaque biofilm matrix and disrupting the chemical bonds that hold the biofilm together. This process loosens and softens the plaque, making it significantly easier to remove through mechanical brushing. Clinical studies, including randomized controlled trials, have shown that twice-daily use of this 67% sodium bicarbonate dentifrice significantly reduces gingival bleeding, plaque index scores, and gingival inflammation compared to standard fluoride toothpastes. It is marketed under various names, including Parodontax and Corsodyl Daily Gum and Toothpaste, depending on the region.
