IchthoBad is a medicinal bath additive developed by Ichthyol-Gesellschaft Cordes Hermanni & Co, containing light sodium bituminosulfonate (Ichthyol sodium) as its active pharmaceutical ingredient. It is indicated for the supportive treatment of subacute and chronic inflammatory skin diseases, including psoriasis, various forms of eczema, and pruritus (itching). Sodium bituminosulfonate is derived from the distillation of sulfur-rich oil shale and subsequent sulfonation. It exerts anti-inflammatory, anti-pruritic, and mild antimicrobial effects, which help alleviate skin irritation, reduce redness, and promote healing when applied topically through full or partial baths.
