Sodium camphorsulfonate is the sodium salt of camphorsulfonic acid, a derivative of camphor. Historically, it was utilized in clinical medicine as an analeptic agent, serving as a respiratory and circulatory stimulant to treat conditions such as respiratory failure or cardiovascular collapse. While its clinical use in humans has largely been superseded by more targeted therapies, it remains a subject of research for its properties as a chiral resolving agent and, more recently, as a biomimetic electrolyte additive in zinc-iodine batteries to suppress dendrite formation and side reactions. It is also occasionally used in veterinary medicine.
