Drug intelligence / Profile preview
A sterile concentrated **intravenous multiple-electrolyte formulation** used as an additive to total parenteral nutrition solutions. This product contains **sodium chloride, calcium chloride, potassium chloride, magnesium chloride, and a sodium salt component** and is intended to replenish and maintain electrolyte balance, particularly in adults receiving concentrated dextrose and amino acid solutions by central venous infusion. It is a **small molecule inorganic salt combination** historically associated with **Hospira** and later **Pfizer**, administered **only after dilution and thorough mixing**, and contains no phosphate, bacteriostat, or antimicrobial agent. Its therapeutic effect is replacement of essential extracellular and intracellular electrolytes to support physiologic ion gradients, neuromuscular function, cardiac conduction, osmotic balance, and acid-base homeostasis in patients at risk of electrolyte imbalance during parenteral nutrition.
