Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Sodium chloride + magnesium chloride + sodium gluconate + potassium chloride + sodium acetate is a sterile, nonpyrogenic, isotonic **multi-electrolyte intravenous solution** marketed as **Plasma-Lyte A**. It is a pharmaceutical electrolyte replacement and hydration product developed and manufactured by **Baxter International**. The solution supplies sodium, potassium, magnesium, chloride, acetate, and gluconate to expand and maintain extracellular fluid volume, correct or prevent fluid and electrolyte deficits, and provide an alkalinizing effect through metabolism of acetate and gluconate to bicarbonate precursors. It is used in adults and pediatric patients as a source of water and electrolytes for hydration and for management of dehydration and electrolyte imbalance, and related formulations are also used for sterile irrigation, rinsing, and washing purposes.
