Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Sodium chloride + potassium chloride + sodium acetate + sodium gluconate + magnesium chloride is a balanced, isotonic intravenous multi-electrolyte solution marketed by Baxter as **Plasma-Lyte A** and **Plasma-Lyte 148**. It provides water plus sodium, potassium, magnesium, chloride, acetate, and gluconate for fluid and electrolyte replacement. Acetate and gluconate are metabolized with consumption of hydrogen ions, producing a metabolic alkalinizing effect. The solution is used as a source of water and electrolytes and as an alkalinizing agent, including for hydration associated with dehydration or electrolyte imbalance.
