Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Sodium chloride + sodium acetate + magnesium chloride + sodium gluconate + potassium chloride** is a sterile balanced crystalloid electrolyte formulation used primarily for intravenous fluid and electrolyte replacement and alkalinization; corresponding sterile irrigation presentations are used for general irrigation, rinsing, and washing. It supplies sodium, potassium, magnesium, chloride, acetate, and gluconate to support extracellular-fluid volume and electrolyte balance. Acetate and gluconate are metabolizable anions that consume hydrogen ions during metabolism, producing a net alkalinizing effect. Injectable products include Plasma-Lyte A, Plasma-Lyte 148, Normosol-R, and OsmoSol-R; Physiolyte is an irrigation presentation.
