Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Salt powder, in the context of the Taichung Veterans General Hospital study, refers to a mixture of sodium chloride and sodium bicarbonate used for nasal irrigation. When dissolved in water, it forms a buffered normal saline solution. It is used as an adjuvant therapy after functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS) in patients with chronic rhinosinusitis to mechanically clear mucus, crusts, and inflammatory mediators from the nasal passages, improve mucociliary clearance, and promote healing of the sinonasal mucosa. In this specific trial, it served as the control group compared against a Chinese herbal medicine nasal irrigation.
