Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Sodium chloride + sodium gluconate + magnesium chloride + sodium acetate + potassium chloride is a balanced multi-electrolyte crystalloid solution, most commonly represented by **Plasma-Lyte A**. It is a sterile, nonpyrogenic, isotonic intravenous fluid containing sodium, potassium, magnesium, chloride, acetate, and gluconate. The solution restores extracellular water and electrolyte balance; acetate and gluconate are metabolizable bicarbonate precursors that provide an alkalinizing effect. Plasma-Lyte A is used as a source of water and electrolytes and as an alkalinizing agent in adults and pediatric patients. The same ingredient-level description is not fully product-specific, because closely related marketed products include Plasma-Lyte 148, Normosol-R, and the irrigation-only product Physiolyte.
