Drug intelligence / Profile preview
A sterile **peritoneal dialysis solution** containing sodium chloride, sodium lactate, calcium chloride, magnesium chloride, and dextrose for **intraperitoneal** administration. It was developed by **Baxter** and is currently marketed in the U.S. by **Vantive** under the **DIANEAL PD-2** and **DIANEAL Low Calcium** brands. The solution functions as a **small-molecule electrolyte and carbohydrate dialysate**: dextrose provides the osmotic gradient that drives ultrafiltration across the peritoneal membrane, while sodium, calcium, magnesium, chloride, and lactate help maintain electrolyte and acid-base balance during dialysis. It is indicated for the management of **acute or chronic renal failure** and is used in peritoneal dialysis, including CAPD, when dialysis support is required.
