**Sodium chloride + sodium lactate + dextrose monohydrate + potassium chloride + calcium chloride** is a sterile hypertonic crystalloid intravenous fluid and electrolyte replacement solution, marketed as **Lactated Ringer's and 5% Dextrose Injection**. It supplies water, sodium, chloride, potassium, calcium, lactate, and dextrose for extracellular-volume and electrolyte replacement with modest caloric support. Sodium lactate is metabolized to carbon dioxide and water with consumption of hydrogen ions, producing a metabolic alkalinizing effect; dextrose provides carbohydrate calories and supports blood glucose. The solution is indicated in adults and pediatric patients as a source of water, electrolytes, and calories or as an alkalinizing agent. Each 100 mL contains dextrose hydrous 5 g, sodium chloride 600 mg, sodium lactate anhydrous 310 mg, potassium chloride 30 mg, and calcium chloride dihydrate 20 mg; it has an approximate osmolarity of 525 mOsmol/L and pH 4.0 to 6.5.
