Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Sodium chloride 0.3% in glucose 3.3% is a hypotonic intravenous crystalloid solution utilized as a maintenance fluid in the CRUSADERS trial (NCT05238506), led by University Hospital, Antwerp. This solution is a central component of a sodium chloride reduction strategy aimed at preventing fluid accumulation and electrolyte imbalances, such as hypernatremia and hyperchloremia, in critically ill adults in the intensive care unit (ICU). By providing a lower concentration of sodium and chloride compared to standard isotonic fluids like PlasmaLyte or 0.9% normal saline, and incorporating glucose to maintain plasma osmolarity, the strategy seeks to improve clinical outcomes, including the number of days patients remain alive and free of life support.
