Drug intelligence / Profile preview
250 ML NaCl 4.5 MG/ML Injection is a 250 mL intravenous bag of 0.45% sodium chloride solution (half-normal saline), containing sodium chloride at a concentration of 4.5 mg/mL in water for injection. As a hypotonic crystalloid solution, its primary mechanism of action is osmotic, serving to restore fluid and electrolyte balance in patients with dehydration, hypovolemia, and electrolyte imbalances. It is a widely available generic parenteral solution with no specific biological receptor target. In clinical research, this solution has been utilized as a standard-of-care fluid challenge in the TARGET UP pilot study (sponsored by King's College Hospital NHS Trust) to evaluate the safety and feasibility of the IKORUS urethral perfusion monitor in detecting hemodynamic responses in critically ill patients.
