Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Sodium chloride 0.9% injection, commonly known as normal saline, is a sterile, nonpyrogenic, isotonic solution of sodium chloride in water for injection. In the specific context of clinical research sponsored by the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA) for anthrax, it is utilized as a placebo control. Specifically, it was used in Phase 2 multicenter studies (such as NCT03877926) to evaluate the safety and immunogenicity of the AV7909 (Cyfendus) anthrax vaccine. As a placebo, it contains 9 mg of sodium chloride per mL and serves as a negative control to establish a baseline for comparing adverse events and immune response kinetics, such as anti-protective antigen (PA) IgG levels, in healthy adult populations.
