Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Sodium chloride 0.9% injection, commonly known as normal saline or isotonic saline, is a sterile, non-pyrogenic solution of sodium chloride in water. In the context of the Phase 2/3 clinical trial (NCT03371888) sponsored by the Medical University of Silesia, it was utilized as a placebo comparator administered via intramuscular injection into the trigger points of painful masticatory muscles (masseter and temporalis) for the treatment of myofascial pain in patients with temporomandibular disorders (TMD). As a placebo, it is pharmacologically inert and has no specific biological target, serving to establish a baseline for evaluating the efficacy of autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections.
