Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Vitrinal is a hypertonic saline solution containing 3% sodium chloride, developed and marketed by Otsuka Pharmaceutical India. It is primarily indicated for the acute treatment of severe hyponatremia and the management of increased intracranial pressure associated with cerebral edema. As a hypertonic solution, it increases the osmotic pressure of the extracellular fluid, facilitating the movement of water out of the intracellular space and into the vascular compartment. This mechanism helps to correct sodium deficits and reduce cellular swelling, particularly in brain tissue. It is administered via intravenous infusion and requires careful monitoring of serum sodium levels to prevent complications such as osmotic demyelination syndrome.
