sodium ferulate

Sodium ferulate is the sodium salt of ferulic acid, a phenolic compound found in various plants including Angelica sinensis and Ligusticum chuanxiong. It is widely used in traditional Chinese medicine and has been approved by the State Drugs Administration of China for the treatment of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. Its pharmacological actions include antithrombotic effects, inhibition of platelet aggregation, antioxidant activity, apoptosis inhibition, and cardioprotection. Mechanistically, it acts as a free radical scavenger (antioxidant), inhibits oxidative stress pathways (including increasing superoxide dismutase activity and nitric oxide levels), suppresses connective tissue growth factor expression in myocardium, and may modulate endothelial function via NO/ERK1/2 signaling pathways. Sodium ferulate has also been studied for potential neuroprotective effects[1][5][6][8][10].
