Sodium fluoride f‑18 is a radiopharmaceutical used as a radioactive diagnostic agent for positron emission tomography (PET) imaging of bone. It consists of the sodium salt of fluorine labeled with the positron-emitting isotope fluorine‑18. After intravenous administration, it accumulates in areas of increased osteogenic activity and bone turnover by exchanging with hydroxyl groups in hydroxyapatite crystals to form fluoroapatite. This property allows sensitive detection and localization of bone metastases, fractures, infections, or other conditions associated with altered bone metabolism. The drug is administered intravenously and emits radiation detectable by PET scanners to produce high-resolution images[1][2][3][4][5].
