Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Sodium-free peritoneal dialysis solution (including DSR 1.0 and DSR 2.0) is an investigational, unapproved peritoneal dialysis fluid developed by Sequana Medical for the treatment of fluid overload and congestion in patients with heart failure or chronic kidney failure. The second-generation version (DSR 2.0) is a sodium-free solution containing 30% icodextrin and 10% dextrose, which act as osmotic agents. Administered intraperitoneally, the solution works via physical osmotic and concentration gradients across the peritoneal membrane to remove sodium and fluid by diffusion, thereby improving volume control and breaking the cycle of cardiorenal syndrome. It is currently being evaluated in Phase I clinical trials.
