Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Aurogel is an ophthalmic viscosurgical device (OVD) and cohesive viscoelastic formulation containing sodium hyaluronate (1.4% or 1.6% in Aurogel Plus). Developed by Aurolab and distributed by Brady Pharma, it is designed for intraocular use during ophthalmic surgeries, including cataract extraction, intraocular lens (IOL) implantation, corneal transplantation, glaucoma filtering surgery, and retinal attachment surgery. Aurogel provides excellent space maintenance in the anterior chamber and capsular bag, facilitates controlled capsulorhexis and safe IOL implantation, and protects the corneal endothelium and other intraocular tissues from mechanical damage during surgical procedures. It is also marketed in some regions as a high-viscosity ophthalmic lubricant for the relief of moderate to severe dry eye symptoms.
