Overview

Sodium hyaluronate + lidocaine is a combination therapy evaluated for the treatment of chronic subacromial bursitis. The formulation specifically utilizes **ARTZ**, a 1% sodium hyaluronate solution with a molecular weight of approximately 0.9x10^6 Da, which acts as a viscosupplement to provide mechanical lubrication and shock absorption within the subacromial bursa. Beyond its mechanical properties, sodium hyaluronate exerts anti-inflammatory effects and modulates pain by interacting with cellular receptors. Lidocaine is included in the injection as a local anesthetic to provide immediate symptomatic relief and facilitate the ultrasound-guided procedure. This combination was the subject of a randomized, double-blind, controlled trial (NCT01441401) sponsored by **Shin Kong Wu Ho-Su Memorial Hospital** to compare its efficacy against corticosteroids and placebo in patients with chronic shoulder pain.
