Sodium hyaluronate + trehalose is a preservative-free ophthalmic combination therapy primarily used for the management of dry eye disease (DED). It combines the lubricating and water-retaining properties of **sodium hyaluronate**, a naturally occurring glycosaminoglycan, with the bioprotective and osmoprotective effects of **trehalose**, a disaccharide. Trehalose helps protect corneal epithelial cells from desiccation, oxidative stress, and inflammation by stabilizing lipid bilayers and proteins. The combination is designed to restore tear film homeostasis, improve clinical signs such as tear break-up time (TBUT) and Schirmer test scores, and alleviate symptoms of ocular discomfort. It is frequently used as a first-line treatment for moderate to severe DED and for ocular surface protection following cataract surgery.
