Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Sodium lactate + sodium chloride + magnesium chloride + calcium chloride + dextrose monohydrate is a sterile peritoneal dialysis solution marketed as Delflex for the treatment of chronic kidney failure in patients maintained on peritoneal dialysis, and historically used in acute and chronic renal failure. It is a multi-component electrolyte and osmotic small-molecule formulation manufactured by Fresenius Medical Care. The solution acts locally within the peritoneal cavity: dextrose monohydrate provides the osmotic gradient that drives ultrafiltration and removal of excess water across the peritoneal membrane, while sodium, calcium, and magnesium salts help maintain electrolyte balance, and sodium lactate serves as a bicarbonate precursor/buffer to help correct metabolic acidosis during dialysis. The therapeutic effect depends on the peritoneal membrane functioning as the dialysis interface rather than on a single discrete molecular target.
