Overview

Sodium molybdate is an inorganic compound with the formula Na₂MoO₄. It is a white crystalline salt commonly encountered as the dihydrate form. Sodium molybdate serves as a source of the essential trace element molybdenum and is used in various industries including agriculture (as a fertilizer to treat or prevent plant deficiencies), water treatment (as a corrosion inhibitor), and health/nutrition (in supplements for preventing or treating dietary deficiencies). In medicine and nutrition, it may be used to address conditions related to low dietary intake of molybdenum or copper deficiency. Its mechanism of action in biological systems involves serving as a cofactor for enzymes such as sulfite oxidase that require the element for proper function[2][4][8]. High doses can cause toxicity.
