This investigational topical gel formulation contains 3% sodium pentaborate (also known as sodium penta boric acid pentahydrate) as its active ingredient. Developed by Bezmialem Vakif University, it is specifically designed for the treatment of diabetic foot ulcers, particularly those classified as grade 1 or 2 by the International Working Group of the Diabetic Foot (IWGDF). The formulation utilizes a pluronic copolymer base consisting of F68 and F127 to facilitate topical delivery. Boron is believed to enhance the wound healing process through several mechanisms: it stimulates the migration and proliferation of cells necessary for tissue repair, exerts local anti-inflammatory effects, and possesses antibacterial properties against gram-negative bacteria.
